Oh, baby! Graco recalls 5 million strollers due to amputation hazard

Nov 20, 2014 | By Patricia L. Harman

Baby in Stroller

An issue with Graco and Century strollers could cause a child’s fingertip to be amputated. The company is providing free repair kits to cover a folding hinge that could be dangerous for little fingers.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the strollers affected were manufactured between August 2000 and September 2014. There have been reports of 11 finger injuries, including six with fingertip amputations, four partial fingertip amputations, and one finger laceration.

All of the models have a one-hand fold release mechanism with an external sliding fold-lock hinge located on either side of the stroller. Owners should check the model numbers located on the stroller leg just above the rear wheel to see if their stroller is affected.

The models involved include:

  • Aspen
  • Breeze
  • Capri – Century Branded Literider
  • Cirrus
  • Glider
  • Kite
  • Literider
  • Literider – Century Branded
  • Sierra
  • Solara – Century Branded Literider
  • Sterline
  • TravelMate

Check here to see if your stroller made the recall list.
